This afternoon, local government colleagues from across Kent gathered, crossing political lines to show solidarity with the people of the Chernihiv Region and Ukraine. The event was a powerful reminder of the ongoing conflict that has now entered its fifth year and the urgent need to continue supporting those affected.

A Message from the Embassy of Ukraine
Mr Vlodymyr Miakovskyi, representing the Embassy of Ukraine to the UK, spoke with heartfelt sincerity. He expressed deep gratitude to the people of Kent for their unwavering support. His words painted a stark picture of life in Ukraine today. He shared how children in the country often know the nearest bomb shelter better than the nearest playground. This chilling reality highlights the harsh conditions faced daily by families in the Chernihiv Region.
Mr Miakovskyi emphasised the importance of maintaining and strengthening support efforts. As the war continues into the 5th year, the needs of the people grow more urgent. His message was clear: solidarity must not waver.
Kent With Ukraine’s Role in Support
County Councillor Antony Hook from Faversham organised the event, providing a platform for updates on ongoing initiatives. Representing Kent With Ukraine, Iris Smith and Jordan Meade attended the meeting. Jordan spoke of his recent visit to Ukraine and why support is vital now given the harshness of the winter and continued Russian aggression.

He updated the meeting on Kent With Ukarine's recent success in delivering generators to foster families and orphanges in the Chernihiv Region. Additionall Jordan gave a rallying call for the politicians present to support with Kent With Ukraine's Paradiplomacy work and about the current projects and how the community’s efforts are making a tangible difference.
Voices of Displacement and Hope
Svitlana Sadova, a displaced Ukrainian now living in Kent, shared her personal story. Her experience brought a human face to the conflict and the challenges faced by refugees. Svitlana spoke about the difficulties of leaving home and the hope she finds in the support from Kent’s residents.

Her testimony reminded everyone why this solidarity matters, not just as a political statement but as a lifeline for real people.
Strengthening Community Bonds
The event was more than a moment of remembrance. It was a call to action to deepen the connection between Kent and the Chernihiv Region. By coming together, local leaders and residents reaffirmed their commitment to stand with Ukraine through the long road ahead.
This gathering showed that support crosses political boundaries and unites people around a shared cause. It also highlighted the power of local initiatives to contribute to global challenges.
Moving Forward Together
Kent’s ongoing support for Ukraine demonstrates how communities can respond with compassion and practical help. As the conflict continues, the people of Kent remain determined to provide aid and raise awareness.
This afternoon’s event was a reminder that standing with Ukraine means more than words. It means action, commitment, and a shared hope for peace.
The people of Chernihiv and all of Ukraine can count on Kent’s continued solidarity in the years to come. Together, local efforts build a stronger foundation for support and recovery.
