KWU Celebrates Vyshyvanka Day with Kent’s Ukrainian Community

Updated: May 24

Kent With Ukraine would like to extend our warmest thanks to the Ukrainian community in Kent for hosting such a wonderful get-together in celebration of Vyshyvanka Day.

Representing Kent With Ukraine, Jordan Meade, Helen Ashenden and Derek Ashenden were delighted to join Ukrainian friends and families for a fantastic afternoon in the Rochester sunshine — despite temperatures climbing to over 30 degrees!

In a poignant display of solidarity at the close of the event, we gathered on Rochester High Street with the flag of Ukraine — a clear and heartfelt message that Kent stands firmly with the people of Ukraine.

It was a real pleasure for the KWU team to catch up with Ukrainian friends from across Kent, many of whom continue to fundraise tirelessly to support the people of Ukraine.

The afternoon was filled with live Ukrainian music, both traditional and modern, and was a joyful celebration of Ukrainian culture, identity and resilience.

Alongside the celebration, there were also important and moving conversations with displaced Ukrainians about the urgent and growing need to support veterans in Ukraine, and about what more we can do locally in Kent to stand behind this important initiative.

Hearing from Ukrainian soldiers who had recently arrived in the UK for respite after what has been an incredibly tough few months in Ukraine was difficult, but it was also a powerful reminder of why we must all continue doing what we can to relieve suffering and support communities across Ukraine.

We were proud to talk to guests about our ongoing work in the Chernihiv Region and to discuss the various initiatives that we are currently working on across the north east of Ukraine.

Kent With Ukraine is proud to stand alongside the Ukrainian community in Kent and to continue supporting the people of Ukraine through friendship, partnership and practical action.

These events are important for reminding people what is going on in Ukraine and bringing together all the local groups who support Ukraine. They do not happen without a lot of hard work and therefore Kent With Ukraine would like to formally thank Mariia, Yuliia, Margo and all the organisers for such a fantastic and worthwhile afternoon fundraising for Ukraine.
